Back again?

I really need to get on the ball with this updating malarky. I mean I'm posting a little more regularly than I did on my first attempt...but still, my last update was almost a whole month ago it seems! I blame copious amounts of work, politics and alcohol. Because I'm a student, and so you have to listen to whatever I say until I graduate and my opinions actually become valid.

Thomas Moyser once said "so will your next blog actually be about something, or are you just going to write about writing a blog as usual?" Much as I appreciate Mr Moysers witty witicisms gracing my presence (and believe me, that's some serious wit right there), I feel I must point something out: Seinfeld is a show about nothing, yet it was one of the most hugely watched sitcoms, so obviously the formula of nothing works! Also, I don't think I quite write about nothing...just things that matter to me at the point in writing; some may consider that "nothing", but I consider it the expression of my inner most thoughts in an attempted mix of humour and pathos. You poor people, how do you cope with me? Saints, each and every one of you!

That said, let's move onto today's topic of nothingness: politics! Aren't you loving hearing so much about it? Quite frankly I'm a bit bored, but it's not over until the fat lady sings! Or maybe just Gordon Brown. Anyway. I am happy to state her and now that I voted Labour, and while I don't think I'll ever understand what possesses people to vote Conservative, at least they do vote. I can understand the argument of some people that they don't like any party particularly, and so don't want to use their vote for something they don't believe in. That's fair enough I suppose, but by not voting you're subjecting yourself to 5 years of someone you don't agree with, while having lost your right to complain. Because that is what's so damn important about voting; it's using your voice, making a decision, showing the government how you feel about something. It's so important to do this so that you're not just swept along by whatever the government says. If you disagree with something, say so! But there are channels such as voting which allow us to do just that, so ignoring them is like saying you don't care what happens. And that it something I will truly never understand.

I quite like the idea of a "Protest Vote", a none-of-the-above vote. That way you can make your opinion clear while still not forcing yourself to agree with any one party. Obviously it wouldn't be that simple, and would need to be worked out somehow, but I'm sure it would work. I'll admit I don't fully understand politics, but I understand enough to know that things aren't perfect as they are. But what can I do?

Ah well, I'm sorry to have taken this somewhat serious tone, but it's something I feel strongly about and needed to vent. Feel free to ignore me and carry on past, I'll still be here with my boards proclaiming the end of the world later. As for today's thought, I'll leave you with this: you are a wonderfully brilliant person, be happy with who you are.

You're not the only one who wants a 'none of the above' box. I deliberately spoiled my ballot in protest, as I'm one of those 'no vote, no voice, no choice' folks who hates every party.

Proportional Representation seems to be the way to go with this. Admittedly, it will give idiots like the BNP some measure of validity by (probably) giving them seats, but it'll also allow parties like the Greens to have a serious voice in the British political system.

...Ah. It appears I was about to go on a rant *screeches to a halt*.
