Come on Valve!

Ahh! So I have 18 minutes left in which to post this blog. Hurray. I always seem to leave everything to the last minute, even in my personal life...yes ladies (and Jack Fanning) that is meant to have exactly the sexual connotations you applied to it! Nice guys do finish last after all...

Anyway, blog topics. Um. Yeah. Normally I make a few notes as to what I can write about but I may have forgotten this week, so you basically get to read whatever comes into my head within the next few minutes. Hmm. I'm going to go with a geeky post this week, so I hope that doesn't put you off. If it does, tough! You need to geek up more often.

Recently due to my looming deadlines my workload has increased dramatically, and therefore so have the frequencies of my various methods of procrastination! They have also been getting more and more elaborate, one example of which has been digging up old web-comics and reading them through. Namely this one:

http://www.hlcomic.com/

For those of you unfamiliar, this is a now-finished web-comic titled "Concerned", and is based around the universe of Half-Life 2. It was made in about 2005, so it's a few years old now but it's still hilarious (to me at least). That's the wonderful, though possibly alienating thing about this comic: the humour is very much based around understand the references to said video game. Now this isn't at all a bad thing, but it does require you to at least understand the basic storyline in order to get the majority of the jokes. However, the comic's creator has kindly found a way around this; below most of the comics is a sort of 'commentary', a notes section. The references to the game are explained, so the jokes can be understood by a wider audience.

Why talk about it now, you ask? Well, I don't know if you asked that, I have no way of actually telling. But I like to think you're just the kind of outside-the-box-thinking individual this company needs! Well as I said, I've recently been procrastinating, and randomly decided to read this again - and I'm very glad I did, I personally think it's brilliantly done. For those of you that haven't bothered to check out the link yet, it's created using a mod for the Half-Life 2 PC game that allows you to mess around with characters and posing and scenery and so on, in order to, for example, create said web-comic. The creator also offers information on how he made some of the comics, which is also very interesting if you're a geek like me.

So yes, sorry if this week's blog has been more geeky than humourous, but it was all I could come up with in such a short space of time. And I now have 7 minutes left until midnight, so I think I've done pretty well for the space of 12 minutes time! I'm going to go now and sleep, the ultimate form of procrastination, but before I do I will as always leave you with a thought: statistics are always fun to use to prove your friends in an argument, even if they're totally wrong. Seriously, you can just make them up!
