What an Obamanation.

In all the hubbub and hullaballoo of moving into my lovely new house, I completely forgot to write you lot a blog yesterday! Technically I moved in on Saturday, but I spent yesterday unpacking and seeing a few friends I haven't seen over the summer, so I do apologise but here is your much-needed blog - only one day late!

Today's blog is meant to be a bit of a rant, but I've sort of lost that energy since I'd planned to write it so it might take a bit to get into my angry stride...I'm sure we'll manage!

Basically, I'm getting really fed up of ignorance. I realise there's not much point in hating an abstract concept, so perhaps it's more the manifestation as people's stupidity is what really angers me. Maybe the solution is to stop watching the news, but then without a knowledge of the wider world I'd just become another bigoted, xenophobic moron. But hey, maybe then I'd be able to get into America more easily?

Sorry, that was unfair, I know many Americans who are lovely, charming, clever people. But it's when I hear all these stories about Obama that it just makes me so upset; a nation has been given a brilliant politician and all they're doing is complaining that he's not good enough, and for (quite frankly) absoultely shit reasons too.

For instance: a recent survey stated that several Americans think that Obama is a Muslim. Why? Because he wants to build a mosque. And probably because he's black, because obviously all black people are Islamic...ugh. Just because the man wants to build a fucking Mosque, that does not mean he's necessarily a Muslim. It means he respects other people's rights to their own beliefs, you xenophobic fuckwits. America is the "Land of the Free", correct? Then why do I hear about so many of it's inhabitants trying to get rid of anything that is different, like it's some kind of disease they could catch. Grow up, open your minds a little. Obama has stated he's not a Muslim, but even if he was, why would it even matter? It's not going to affect his ability to do his job in the slightest. Not one little bit.

The only thing I had sympathy for was this sign I saw:

Now I don't agree with what they're protesting against, but I respect their right to free speech and I can see what they're saying. Unfortunately, several nations that count Islam as their national faith are very restrictive of other religions, the polar opposite to America's overzealous Christianity. It's such a shame, not only because of the freedoms it denies but also because it creates this false image and only serves to prove the points of these idiots. But I digress.

Anyone who knows me well will know my strong advocation of socialist tenets. And this is another thing about Obama-hating racists that really, REALLY pisses me off: people who think he is a Communist. Now in true 'Allo 'Allo style, I shall say this only once.

Socialism is NOT the same bloody thing as Communism. Get that into your tiny, closed minds.

This outburst is chiefly due to this picture I saw regarding Obama and said socialist principles:

Notice the main thing wrong with this picture? It's painting Obama in the Communist colours, and what it really means is COMMUNISM, not socialism. Socialism is a form of thinking that involves helping out the less fortunate, while Communism is a form of government loosely based on bastardised socialist principles. I think we can all agree that every communist government in history has ultimately failed, and severely restricted the freedom's of it's peoples. But that's my fucking point: so many of these people seem unable to distinguish the fact that Stalin betrayed the socialist principles he claimed to be working with, and actually twisted them to his own advantage.

I'm proud to count myself as a socialist, as far as a person can be considered a socialist. I agree with many (but not necessarly all) of it's doctrines and beliefs, and think that they need to be implented into another form of government, rather than using an entirely new one supposedly created using it's tenets, like Communism. To be fair, i've probably completely misunderstood and wrongly explained Communism here, and feel free to point that out, but I think my general argument still stands?

It's not people disliking Obama that annoys me, just to be clear. It's people hating him for the wrong reasons, people who judge and jump to great big wrong conclusions before being in full possesion of all the facts. Grr. Especially for a nation that claims to be Christian. I was brought up in a Christian family, and while not a traditional practitioner I still believe a good deal of the ethical points. Funnily enough, I'm pretty sure the main things it advocates are acceptance and forgiveness; I don't remember Jesus ever saying "oh and go kill all the Muslims because they're black lol". Idiots.

If it makes you feel better, this is the kind of intelligence we're dealing with here:

Well done sir. When you learn to spell and use grammar correctly, perhaps then I'll vaguely consider your bigoted beliefs. Sorry for the rant people, I'll try and have a more cheerful one next week! On time as well!
